The Bible and Politics: Royal Power

September 15 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Come hear the Hot Dill Pickers at our annual BBQ and Bluegrass September 8th!

2/5 of the band will return to teach on Sunday mornings in September. Old Testament scholars Joel LeMon and Brennan Breed will help us examine the Bible’s perspectives on governance and power—how they develop, how they are used, and how they affect the community.

This class will look at the royal psalms and other biblical texts that define the role of kings as leaders of just governments that protect the vulnerable, as well as narratives about the failure of kings and the ultimate kingdom of God.

Dr. Joel M. LeMon, The Rev. Dr. Donald Allen Harp, Jr. Distinguished Associate Professor of Biblical Studies, Candler School of Theology; Director of the Graduate Division of Religion, Emory University
