The Bible and Politics: Communal Deliberation

Come hear the Hot Dill Pickers at our annual BBQ and Bluegrass September 8th!

2/5 of the band will return to teach on Sunday mornings in September. Old Testament scholars Joel LeMon and Brennan Breed will help us examine the Bible’s perspectives on governance and power—how they develop, how they are used, and how they affect the community.

This class will consider how biblical texts depict clans and other communities coming together to make decisions—proto-democratic systems that wrestled with the challenges of keeping the peace, applying old laws to new contexts, and reflecting a shared understanding of justice.

Dr. Brennan W. Breed, Associate Professor of Old Testament, Columbia Theological Seminary

Connections

Connections is a discussion-based class that explores a reading, podcast, or video that has been shared before the class meeting. The gathering is mostly member-led, with occasional conversations facilitated by pastoral staff. Reading or listening ahead is helpful, but not required.
